The King’s Guard is drill team that performs the nightly changing of the guard in Waikiki. Dressed in uniforms, the King’s Guard team is reproduced from among the palace guards of King David Kalakaua.
The King’s Guard offer extraordinary attractions that reflect the rich royal history of the people in the 1800s. The changing ceremony in Waikiki is the longest daily event that presents an original show by the king’s guard team. The changing ceremony includes a flag lowering ceremonial followed by a drill performance. Visitors from all over the world are drawn to witness the precision and snap of the guards at the King’s village everyday at 6:15 p.m. the visitors are also educated on the Hawaiian rich history and the role played by the king’s guard.
The king’s guards perform throughout the year and can be found practicing in the open areas and streets of Waikiki. The King’s Guards are present everywhere, be it a cultural event, judging drill events, funerals, coaching some junior drill teams or weddings and is the symbol of pride for the people in Hawaii. |
