The Hawaii State Museum of Natural and Cultural History or the Bishop Museum, located on Oahu, Hawaii, is a museum of science and history. Being the biggest museum in the Hawaiian Island, it is also home to the most number of Polynesian scientific and cultural artifacts in the World. The Bishop Island was founded in the year 1889 and has since then been a major attraction for people from all over the world.
The Bishop Museum also has a widespread collection of entomological specimens, numbering around 13.5 millions. The museum is opened to public and can be accessed via Bus Routes A, B, 2, 1, 10, and 7.
The bishop museum has a research and learning facility dedicated to the learning of astronomical sciences, the Jhamandas Watumull Planetarium. There is a life-sized imitation of a huge stone idol or the Moai usually seen in the Rapa Nui. The campus also houses the Pauahi Hall which conserves over 14 million specimens covering over 16500 primary types of arthropods and insects. It is also home to Paki Hall, the Hawaiian museum library and archives and Sports Hall of Fame. |
