Tour de Trash is a joint event, coordinated by the City and supported by island businesses engaged in recycling at many levels. Tour de Trash is a highly popular event with people lining up to be a part of it. The buses get fully booked weeks in advance of the scheduled dates and have long waiting lists of people wanting to be a part of it. Tour de Trash gives an opportunity to get close information at the waste processing and recycling technology that is in operation on Oahu. Each tour consists of round trip and includes only the bus transportation and not the lunch or parking

It generates public awareness among people of the need to recycle. Over the years the Oahu recycling rates have increased tremendously thanks to Tour de Trash which facilitates decision making on waste management and recycling initiatives.
