Opening Reception: Hawaiian Flag Quilts: Legacy of Patriotism Exhibition is being organized by Mission Houses Museum at 553 S King St Honolulu, HI 96813 on Saturday, 15th October 2009. The museum while celebrating the Hawaii’s 50 years of statehood honors the notion of nationalism that is such an important part of the American legacy. The American heritage of patriotism is nowhere more apparent than in the highly popular Flag Quilt tradition of Hawaii. During the exhibition Mission Houses Museum would showcase its collection if historic Hawaiian Flag Quilts along with several contemporary and modern works. Hawaiian Flag Quilts were created as a sign of political protest in the later half of the 19th century and has since then become an integral part of the Hawaiian culture.
