Established in 1920 by a private genealogical society and non-profit organization the Hawaiian Mission Children's Society, The Mission House Museum offers school programs, guided tours, exhibitions and special events throughout the year for the general public. The museum consists of 3 mission homes that once served as the workplaces of the earliest Christian missionaries.
Alphabet Soup: Literacy, Language & Learning and several of its companion programs would explore the important part played by the 19th century New England missionaries in teaching, developing and creating the Hawaiian written language. It would help to remove the misconceptions and myths that have grown into this matter over the years. It also would reveal the importance of encouraging and retaining the usage of the Hawaiian language in the contemporary world of today.
