It was established as an official Hawaii’s art gallery. In the year 1967, the role of the state as the patron of arts was augmented further with creation of Art in the Public Places Program which is actually the first such thing in US.
Accession: Recent Acquisition from the Art in Public Places Collection includes more than five thousand works of the art by over one thousand four hundred artists who have been acquired ever since the collection began in the year 1967. This event takes place from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am till 4 pm. On the first Friday of every month, downtown gallery walk is held which starts from 5pm and ends at 9pm. It remains closed on Sunday and Monday and also on all the state as well as federal holidays. It is completely free to the public. |
