| The knowledgeable guides will lead visitors through the years of rich island history explaining the unique platonic movements that have been resulting in the various lava formations and the creation of a lava tubes. On entering the tube, the visitors would be standing inside the world’s most active volcano. These spacious caves were carved around 700 years ago and covered in stalagmites, stalactites and colorful flow stone. The caves resulted due to the eruption of Kilauea Iki that covered the surface resulting in the formation of channels. The channels caused the bulk of the lava to flow downstream more efficiently which resulted in lava tube after crusting took place. The lava travelling through these tubes can sometimes travel great distance due to the cooling effects of the air that prevents major heat loss.
