Matt Costa is of Portugese ancestry. He states that his mother 'was around the house a lot' and father 'worked in airlines'. While he was young, his family moved to Florida. At the age of 12, they again moved back to Huntington Beach. He was still young when he got his first enthralling gift – a skateboard. With enormous dedication, Costa nearly became an expert in this. However, everything changed drastically for Costa in 2003, when he shattered his leg in a skateboard accident. It need time to recover and it was then when Costa directed his passion towards guitar.
Slowly, his demo started circulating amidst acquaintances. Soon No Doubt guitarist Tom Dumont got hold of one of the copy. Dumont liked the recording so much that he offered Costa to record more demos for him in his home studio. Soon, the duo brought up many famous songs. |
