But Raymond Kane was not an ordinary child. He was a talented boy. This nine year old was a skilled fisherman and a persuasive negotiator. With his strong determination to learn slack key, he made a very tempting offer to that person playing slack key. He offered to catch the favourite fish of the man in exchange of the lessons. He was one of the well known slack key players of 20th century and was the first person to share this knowledge rather than keeping it with him.
Kane’s well known tune "Punahele," became one of his much-loved teaching tools. His main aim was to teach others till his last breath. Even when he stopped teaching slack key, people would come to his place and he would play. He was 82 when he died. |
